Discussion questions
1. A man is mentioned in this chapter who spent much time training workers for Christ. Why do you think when asked about what the great need of the Church is he stated, “Absolute surrender to God is the one thing.”? Why do you think he saw surrender to God as so important?
2. Why does the author say that God “expects” our surrender? What does this mean?
3. What does the author mean when he states, “God accomplishes your surrender” and that “God Himself will work it in you”? (Scripture reference: Philippians 2:13)
4. Have you ever thought of yourself as hindering the work of God in your life by failing to surrender to Him?
5. Does it bring peace to your heart to know that God “accepts” and “maintains” your surrender? How does this truth encourage you?
6. In what way/s do you presently see that you are failing to surrender the entirety of your life to God? How do you think God wants you to make an adjustment so that you are living a fully surrendered lifestyle?
Action Points
1. After reading this chapter, if you are not certain that you have surrendered the entirety of your life to Jesus as the true Leader of your Life take time to do that now. Pray and ask Jesus to be your Lord based on what you now know about a full and complete surrender.
2. Read Mark 8:34-36 “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? “Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Write down the most important things in your life. These things could be possessions, positions or people. Talk to God about them. Are you willing to surrender them fully to Him? Take time in prayer to surrender everything to Jesus.
Prayer Focus:
If you don’t know God as your real Father, your very best Friend, then turn to Him now. Surrender your will to Him by praying a simple but earnest prayer for the Lord to take over your life in every way and to forgive you for all your sins. If you seek Jesus sincerely, you will find the True Source of all happiness and peace. If this prayer is the desire of your heart, pray something similar in your own words to the God.
“Heavenly Father, I choose to surrender all to you; all that I am, all that I possess, all that I do, and all those I know. I desire for my life to be shaped and molded into Your image alone. I lay down my life before You and I choose to make Jesus Christ my Lord forever. By Your grace I desire to do Your will in everything, every moment of every day. I accept Your demands. I am Yours and all that I have. Absolute surrender is what my soul yields to You by divine grace.” (Continue to pray as God’s Spirit leads you to.)
If you have already surrendered your life to Christ, take this as an opportunity to renew a fresh surrender to His being Your Lord and Savior.
