Session 8 – Kept by the Power of God

Preparation:

Read Chapter 8 of the book Absolute Surrender.

Session Outline

Ice Breaker/Introduction (Optional):

* Faith walk. Pair up into twos. Take turns having one person lead the other by the hand around the room with their eyes closed. (Or with a blindfold). Then talk about how difficult or easy this was to do.

* Faith Fall- Pair up in twos (Men with Men; women with women). Take turns. With one standing 3 feet away from the other, and their back turned towards them, lean back and fall into the other person. The person behind the one will catch the other.

 

Worship/Prayer: Some groups may want to incorporate a time of worship, other groups may choose to simply begin in prayer.

Bible Reading (Take time to read the Bible aloud):  1 Peter 1:3-9

Video Clip (Optional) (Recommended to view prior to going through the discussion questions)

 

Preface to this video:  As you watch this video ask yourself the question, “Can I trust this GOD to keep me?”

Discussion Questions for Chapter 8

1. What is the primary thing that stood out to you from the chapter, “Kept by the Power of God”?  (Why do you think that this stood out to you?)

2. Can you share a time when God “kept” you in faith?

3. What part does God play and what part are you to play in the area of faith?

4. What role does helplessness play in faith?

5. What is required of you to receive faith?

Action Point

Make a list of the things you struggle trusting God with.  Write out at least 1-2 promises from Scripture regarding God’s faithfulness.

Prayer Focus

* Pray and thank God for His promise of keeping you in faith.

* Offer yourself as helpless to the Lord.

* Ask at least one other person to join you in praying for something that you have had difficulty trusting God with.

Read chapter 9 in Absolute Surrender “Ye Are the Branches”
