Introductory Meeting to Launch Renewal 101

Preparation:

If you are considering taking a small group through the Renewal 101 material we would encourage you to do an opening “Launch” meeting in which you are able to encourage people to participate.  One suggestion would be to host a dinner (or at least have a time of refreshments to be served to those who come).  The purpose of this meeting is to cast vision for people to prayerfully get involved with going through the Renewal 101 material.

Suggestions for your opening meeting:

– Allow for approximately 2 hours together.

– Begin with an informal time of sharing hearts with one another.  You may fellowship around questions like these:

* Share how you first came to know Jesus Christ. 

* Share something that God has been speaking to you lately related to your relationship with Him.

– Take time to introduce the Renewal 101 course: It would be good to have one of the facilitators of the group share some of their heart for why they have called the group together.  Share your heart for seeing those who attend go deeper in their walk with Jesus Christ.

– Explain the Resource that you will be going through: Absolute Surrender by Andrew Murray and the related audio/video files.  (If you have already ordered physical copies of the book then you can hand these out during the opening meeting for those who are interested.)

2. You may also seek to give participants the website for where they can find their assignments online.  www.dninternational.org/renewal101_overview

– You may seek to read aloud at least 2 or 3 pages from Chapter 1 of the Absolute Surrender book (or a selected portion) in order to give them a taste of the material.

– Worship/Prayer: Some groups may want to incorporate a time of worship during the introductory meeting, other groups may choose to simply take time to pray together corporately and give people an opportunity to prayerfully make a decision about whether they are going to participate in the class.  (If your group is an existent group that has already decided to go through this material it may not be necessary to have them make a formal decision but just to pray to prepare their hearts before going through the material in the upcoming weeks.)
